Diabetic Foot Care Tips

  1. Make an appointment for an evaluation if you suffer from any injury or have signs of infection.
  2. Do not trim nails or shave calluses on you own without approval from your Doctor
  3. Do not use chemicals, vinegar soaks, or other acidic corn removers on your feet.
  4. Use supportive wide shoe gear with high toe boxes made of soft leather materials.
  5. Use clean, supportive cotton socks daily.
  6. Avoid soaking your feet unless approved by your Doctor.
  7. Examine your feet daily for any abnormal changes. Use a mirror to check the bottom of your feet.
  8. Examine your shoes inside and out for any foreign objects. Feel inside your shoe with your hand for any irregularities.
  9. Do not smoke tobacco products. It decreases blood flow to your feet and legs and causes other medical problems.
  10. Do not warm feet with external heat sources such as radiators and heating pads to avoid burns. Check water temperature before bathing.
  11. Use skin moisturizer daily. Avoid putting cream in between toes.
  12. Never walk barefoot.
